Two people were arrested – one on suspicion of attempted murder – after a woman was left fighting for life following trouble on a city street. A total of three people were rushed to hospital after ‘serious’ violence in Barcheston Road, Weoley Castle, early today, Monday, August 15.
The most seriously injured, a 27-year-old woman, was critically ill in hospital, West Midlands Police said. The other two casualties, a 32-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman, were described as stable.
There was a huge police cordon in place overnight. One resident told BirminghamLive he saw blue tape at 4am. A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder while a 59-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.
A resident told Birmingham Live: “Barcheston Road was taped off by police. It wasn’t a road accident.
“I saw the police cordon at 4am. I didn’t take pictures but a policewoman at the scene told me the road was likely to be closed until the afternoon.”
A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “Two people have been arrested after three other people were found with serious injuries following disorder in Birmingham this morning, August 15. We were called to Barcheston Road in Weoley Castle at around 1.55am. Three people were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
“A 27-year-old woman remains in a critical condition. A 32-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman’s condition is described as stable.
A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder while a 59-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder. Both remain in police custody.
