The ‘stunning’ hidden tree house three hours from Birmingham – with outdoor baths and wild horses

Only a couple of hours drive from Birmingham is a country full of holiday destinations. Wales has everything, mountains, the seaside… and even a giant conker you can stay in.

Nestled into the Cambrian mountains, bang in the middle of Wales, is one of the most extraordinary holiday accommodations. It is best described as a giant conker, designed to look like the moon, made up of a sphere of hexagons. It has no running water, no fridge, no phone signal, and no plugs. It truly is an escape from the rest of the world.

The ‘conker’ is grey with circular windows, which look just like the craters on a moon. One even lights up at night, making the whole Airbnb feel completely otherworldly rather than something in the middle of Wales.

The Moon Conker, as it is officially known, is billed as a unique riverside treepod, reached by rustic stairs. Outside the conker, guests can enjoy an outdoor bath each and a firepit.

The Moon Conker has two outdoor baths which need filling from the nearby stream

There is a slight twist though, which only adds to the wild experience, as the baths must be filled by hand with water from the nearby stream which can then be heated in a kettle. Guests can enjoy a moonlit bath before heading back into the comfort of the super king size bed in front of the fire.

Outside is a gas stove for cooking, or you can use the firepit which is covered to combat all sorts of weather. There is also tea, coffee, and marshmallows provided – but the hosts suggest using the river if you need ‘a cooler’ as there is no fridge.

The Airbnb page says: “If you’ve been dreaming of rewilding yourself during lockdown. If you want to swing axes, build fires, and create your own moon bathing experience, this is the conker for you.”

The Airbnb has received enthusiastic reviews from happy customers. One said: “It’s a lovely experience, the pod is nice and cosy and in a very private area. Make sure to go up the hill behind the pod for a beautiful view of your surrounding.

“There are a few wild horses roaming around and will come to your pod but they are friendly. The sky is clear at night and you see the stars and full moon clearly.”

Another said: “Sitting outside eating breakfast by the fire with the sheep, walking to the top of the hills, spending hours to fill the bath. Looking at the stars at night eating marshmallows. It was truly magical.”

Pets are allowed into the Airbnb and long term stays are also accepted. You can stay in the Moon Conker with prices starting at £178 a night. Book through Airbnb .
