But drivers are warned they need to make sure that the water is not too hot, or they could end up shattering the windscreen.

The hack means you aren’t standing in the cold scraping the ice off which takes far longer to do, often with worse results.

The video was shared on Instagram by @lowkeyglutenfree and has had more than 78,100 likes.

The poster said: “This is the ultimate News England hack. I don’t know how I have survived so long without it.

“The water I am using is from the tap. Obviously, the best thing would be to warm your car ahead of time.”

She says that she recommends this hack for people in a rush to get to work.

Another said: “I wish I had known this before.”

But a few drivers pointed out it could be dangerous if the water is too hot, as it could crack the windscreen.

One said: “Hot water on an icy windscreen can cause it to crack, please be careful.”
