The 5 Greatest NFL Teams of All Time

Football is America’s favorite sport. Millions of fans watch the best athletes compete at the highest level every Sunday. And while there have been many great teams throughout NFL history, a select few stand out above the rest. While the offshore sports betting sites are still trying to figure out who’s the outright favorite for the Super Bowl this year, here are the five greatest NFL teams of all time.
1. The 1972 Miami Dolphins
The only team in the history of the NFL to finish a season undefeated, the 1972 Dolphins went 14-0 in the regular season and then won Super Bowl VII to complete a perfect 17-0 campaign.
Led by head coach Don Shula and quarterback Bob Griese, the Dolphins dominated on both sides of the ball, posting the league’s best record in scoring defense (allowed just 171 points) and ranking second in scoring offense ( averaged 27.5 points per game).
2. The 1985 Chicago Bears
One of the most popular teams in NFL history was the 1985 Bears. Led by defensive coordinator Buddy Ryan’s “46” defense, which featured future Hall of Famers Mike Singletary and Wilber Marshall, the Bears set a then-NFL record for the fewest points allowed in a season (198) en route to winning Super Bowl XX.
On offense, quarterback Jim McMahon and running back Walter Payton formed one of the most dynamic duos in NFL history, helping the Bears average an impressive 28.3 points per game.
3. The 1989 San Francisco 49ers
Led by offensive mastermind Bill Walsh and quarterback Joe Montana, the 1989 49ers were simply unstoppable on offense.
The team scored a then-record 505 points during the regular season en route to winning Super Bowl XXIV, capped off by Montana’s record-setting performance in which he threw for five touchdown passes.
Walsh retired after the season, but Montana and company would win two more Super Bowls in their careers.
4. The 1992 Dallas Cowboys
Another of the most dominant teams in NFL history was the early 1990s Cowboys. They won three Super Bowls in four years behind head coach Jimmy Johnson and star players such as Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin, and Emmitt Smith.
The 1992 squad was arguably the best of them all, as they posted a 13-3 record during the regular season before cruising to victories in the playoffs over divisional rivals San Francisco and Green Bay en route to winning Super Bowl XXVII.
5. The 2007 New England Patriots
One of only two teams to finish a regular season undefeated (the other being the 1972 Dolphins), the 2007 Patriots were dominant from start to finish. Led by MVP quarterback Tom Brady and head coach Bill Belichick, New England outscored its opponents by a ridiculous margin of +315 points during its perfect 16-0 regular season campaign before capping things off with a thrilling victory over Eli Manning and the Giants in Super Bowl XLII.
Conclusion:
These are just five great teams that have graced our gridirons over the years, but these squads stand alone at the top of NFL history thanks to their dominance, greatness, and historical significance.
