Aston Villa theory emerges about vacant squad numbers before transfer deadline

Aston Villa supporters are anticipating a busy final week of the transfer window after Unai Emery continued to successfully trim the fringes of his squad on Monday. Two more players – Jan Bednarek and Morgan Sanson – left in different capacities at the start of this week.

The Polish defender and French midfielder have followed Frederic Guilbert, Danny Ings and Cameron Archer – the latter on loan – out of Bodymoor Heath this month, with only Alex Moreno and Jhon Duran – neither with previous Premier League experience – coming in the other direction.

The culling might not be done there, either. Emery confirmed to BirminghamLive after the win at Southampton on Saturday that midfielder Marvelous Nakamba – who didn’t travel with the squad to St Mary’s – was left out in order to quicken up his own departure before the deadline, with no prospect of regular game time at Villa.

Aston Villa learn Luiz Henrique price tag as fresh transfer claim emerges

Fresh claims have emerged about Aston Villa’s interest in Real Betis star Luiz Henrique.

Villa boss Unai Emery is claimed to be an admirer of the 22-year-old forward after seeing him in action in La Liga while at Villarreal. Henrique joined Betis in the summer from Fluminense where he progressed through the youth ranks.

Despite making just 24 appearances for the La Liga outfit, he has already caught the eye. Along with Villa, Arsenal, Manchester United, Napoli and Newcastle United are all said to be monitoring his situation.

Aston Villa face fresh transfer competition from Chelsea for winger target

Anthony Gordon, the Everton winger who has reportedly attracted interest from Aston Villa in the January transfer window, has once again gained the attention of big spending Chelsea – and they could look to strike a deal with the Toffees before next week’s deadline.

Gordon has scored three goals in 16 Premier League appearances this season for the struggling Blues, who parted company with Chelsea legend Frank Lampard on Monday evening, and they could look to raise funds for their new manager to spend in the final few days of the window by moving Gordon on – and he’s not short of top flight suitors.

Last week Villa were tipped to make a late move for Gordon before next Tuesday’s deadline passes; they appear to be in the market for a winger amid links with Gerard Deulofeu, and 90min claim that Gordon might be an alternative option. In order to land the 21-year-old, they’d need to see off other approaches.

Former £10m Aston Villa striker set for another January transfer

Former Aston Villa striker Mbwana Samatta is set for another January transfer this month. Samatta joined Villa in January 2020 for around £10m to aid the club’s battle against relegation, in what was their first season back in the Premier League. He scored only two goals, though, both of them in the first few weeks of his time at the club.

Samatta, who joined from Belgian side Genk, netted in a 2-1 defeat at Bournemouth on his league debut and he then scored at Wembley in the EFL Cup final against Manchester City, which ended in a loss by the same score-line.

The Tanzanian striker struggled to make an impact during Project Restart, however, and he was swiftly sent out on loan to Turkish outfit Fenerbahce before the summer’s transfer deadline. Samatta’s performances out there earned him a permanent move in the summer of 2021, but he struggled for minutes and he has since had loan spells with Royal Antwerp and also back with Genk.

Aston Villa confident of double transfer deal before deadline day

Aston Villa are hopeful of thrashing out a deal to bring Matteo Guendouzi to Villa Park before next week’s transfer deadline (January 31, 11pm).

Unai Emery wants a reunion with his former Arsenal player, a player he signed for £7million from Lorient in his first transfer window at the Emirates back in 2018.

Villa’s head coach has long been an admirer of the French international and attempted to sign him for a second time while at Villarreal. Emery has since allowed Morgan Sanson to depart back to Ligue 1 and wants Guendouzi to bolster Villa’s midfield ranks for the second half of the season.

Guendouzi’s club, Marseille, are reluctant to sell a player who’s been a mainstay in their team ever since the midfielder joined back in 2021. Les Olympiens have, though, lined up Hellas Verona’s talented midfielder Ivan Ilic, with many believing that the Serbian will be Guendouzi’s replacement.

Aston Villa in transfer ‘call’ with £30m player as Leeds United enter race

Aston Villa have reportedly been in contact with transfer target Weston McKennie over a potential deal with Juventus.

The US international, who has long been linked with a move to Villa, seems to be on the way out of the crisis-riddled Italian club. This month they were docked 15 points by the Italian football federation, FIGC, for “financial irregularities” and “false accounting” in relation to historic transfer dealings.

The Premier League has been touted as a possible destination for the midfielder, a position Villa have been looking to strengthen in the January transfer window. The club are also looking at reuniting Unai Emery with former Arsenal man Mattéo Guendouzi, who currently plays for Marseille.

Matteo Guendouzi to Aston Villa latest as Unai Emery ‘hopeful’ of reunion amid ‘fabulous’ offer

The January transfer window is now into its final week and Aston Villa are still hoping to add two more players before the deadline.

Villa have already brought in left back Alex Moreno from Real Betis and striker Jhon Duran, but are not content to stop there as the board look to provide Unai Emery with the armoury he needs. Villa’s two main targets appear to be Marseille midfielder Matteo Guendouzi and Lyon attacker Moussa Dembele.

Both players would provide Emery’s squad with significant upgrades and Guendouzi is a player the Villa boss knows well from their time together at Arsenal. So, with that in mind, here is a round-up of everything we know regarding a deal for the 23-year-old French international.

Bournemouth close in on £22m winger amid Aston Villa transfer links

Bournemouth have had a bid reportedly accepted for Villarreal attacker, and Aston Villa linked, Nicolas Jackson before the transfer deadline next Tuesday night. Bournemouth are desperate for reinforcements as they fight under Gary O’Neil to preserve their Premier League status in the second half of the season.

Jackson has been linked with Villa, perhaps predictably after the appointment of Unai Emerywho worked with him in Spain in the last 18 months or so. It appears as there’s now a good chance that the forward will end up in England – at Villa or elsewhere – this week.

Jackson was promoted into the Villarreal first team at the back end of the 2020-21 season, but it was last season when he became a more prominent figure in the squad and contributed to 16 goals – scoring seven of them – in 36 appearances in all competitions.

Gerard Deulofeu to Aston Villa transfer latest as salary offer claims emerge

Gerard Deulofeu has received a lucrative salary offer in the hope that it’ll help to convince the player to join Aston Villa this month, according to reports in Italy. Deulofeu, who has previously played in the Premier League for Watford and Everton, is currently with Udinese in Serie A.

The 28-year-old is well liked by Unai Emery, who he worked with at Sevilla and who is keen to add depth to his attacking department having already moved to bring in exciting young forward Jhon Duran from Chicago Fire earlier this window – that move was confirmed on Monday.

Udinese wouldn’t like to lose Deulofeu, who has two goals and six assists in Serie A this season, and Gazzetta dello Sport reckons that a summer sale is more likely, despite Villa being prepared to offer the Italian side almost £20m in the coming week, in the hope of securing a deal this winter.

Aston Villa suffer transfer blow as Tottenham hijack deal

Aston Villa have been dealt a transfer blow as Villarreal winger Arnaut Danjuma is set to join Tottenham Hotspur on loan.

A reunion could have been on the cards for Villa boss Unai Emery and the 25-year-old after Villarreal signed him from Bournemouth in 2021. Danjuma played a crucial role for Emery last season, scoring against Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-final.

It was reported earlier this month that Villa were among the interested clubs to secure his services, but faced competition from Bournemouth, Everton and Spurs. Villa were claimed to have spoken to the player, alongside Everton.

Aston Villa ‘fail with club record offer’ for Spanish international

Aston Villa have had a bid for Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams knocked back by the player, as their hunt for a new attacking option intensifies before the transfer window shuts next week. Williams, 20, is not willing to leave the Basque for Villa, reports the Mail.

Villa have identified Williams as a potential quality option who they could add to their squad before the closure of the January transfer window next week, and it’s claimed that they were ready to smash their previous transfer record to bring him to Villa Park and make him the third addition of the Unai Emery era.

Williams’ Athletic release clause stands at £45million and Villa were willing to match that sum, but they’ve not been able to convince the player himself to swap La Liga for the Premier League. Williams has scored three goals and assisted three more in Spain’s top tier this season.
